what is a skin peel and who are they suitable for?
Peels are chemical exfoliants that dissolve layers of skin to stimulate cell turnover and renewal, helping to target a myriad of skin concerns including acne, hyperpigmentation, and premature skin ageing while also improving skin’s texture, tone and appearance. Exfoliating or peeling agents such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA), and fruit enzymes each have different molecular sizes and chemical structures. These variations in size and structure allow them to penetrate skin to different degrees, work in different ways, and target a wide range of skin concerns.
To be optimally effective, peels need to strike a balance between having a high enough percentage of exfoliating agents to produce results – without causing undue dehydration or skin irritation. A peel’s strength generally correlates with the depth to which it penetrates the skin. Although they can produce dramatic results, at-home peels are classified as a ‘very superficial peel’, anything deeper must be applied by a licensed skin therapist or physician.
Advanced at-home peel formulas with 30% acid concentration are designed for tolerant skin, so it’s advisable to work up to this level of exfoliation. If you’ve never used an exfoliant or acid-based product before, introduce something milder initially like Daily Milkfoliant.

AHAs - Glycolic Acid & Lactic Acid
These water-soluble Alpha Hydroxy Acids are known for their chemical exfoliating efficacy. Glycolic Acid reacts with the uppermost layers of the skin to dissolve sebum, slough off dead skin cells and increase cell turnover. This helps to unclog pores, improve skin texture, and decrease the appearance of fine lines. It has the lowest molecular weight among AHAs, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the Stratum Corneum for maximum exfoliation benefits. Lactic Acid, which has a higher molecular weight, exfoliates and brightens the skin while also delivering hydrating benefits.
BHA - Salicylic Acid
This oil-soluble Beta Hydroxy Acid mixes with the lipids and sebum on skin’s surface, disrupting cellular junctions. This action helps slough off dead skin cells and remove the contents of clogged pores – decreasing the appearance of pore size and improving skin health.
PHA - Gluconolactone
This plant based Polyhydroxy Acid belongs to the next generation of AHAs. Its large molecular structure limits its ability to penetrate the skin – allowing it to provide skin-smoothing and antioxidant benefits without skin-sensitising side effects.
Tranexamic Acid
This powerful multifunctional active helps to even skin tone and decrease the appearance of dark spots by inhibiting melanin-forming tyrosinase activity, as well as plasmin that stimulates melanin production. It also exhibits a sensitivity-reducing soothing property, making it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Phytic Acid
This naturally sourced acid found in corn delivers a mild exfoliation to the uppermost layers of dead skin cells and debris. It helps unclog pores to reduce breakouts, aids in cell turnover to improve skin’s texture, evens skin tone, and smooths the appearance of fine lines.
Fermented Pomegranate Enzyme
This enzyme dissolves proteins to soften skin tissues, promoting gentle yet effective exfoliation of the outermost layer of dead skin cells that trap bacteria and sebum. It also helps to accelerate skin cell turnover, helping to shed dead skin cells and allow new skin cells to take their place. This results in an improvement in skin brightness and evenness, along with a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Liquid Peelfoliant’s maximum strength at-home peel formula contains 10% AHA’s (glycolic + lactic acids), 0.5% BHA (salicylic acid), 4.5% PHA (Gluconolactone), 5% additional acids (Phytic and Tranexamic acids) and 10% enzyme (pomegranate enzyme).

Liquid Peelfoliant is a skin-nourishing daily peel with a potent blend of 30% acids and enzymes that work at different layers within skin’s surface – exfoliating to help unclog pores and melting away dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin and visibly reduced fine lines and wrinkles, all without stripping the skin.
Along with the acid and enzyme ingredients as listed above, Liquid Peelfoliant also contains a moisturising lipid-rich blend with hydrating complex and upcycled Cranberry Extract + Red Gardenia Flower Extract. This blend mimics the natural lipids found in skin, such as ceramides, to nourish and strengthen the skin’s barrier while working to replenish and smooth the skin. This allows the product to be used daily without compromising skin health.
A hydrating complex with Sodium PCA helps reduce moisture evaporation and maintain hydration even after it is rinsed off. Natural biopeptides derived from upcycled cranberries help improve complexion radiance, strengthen the skin barrier by reducing trans-epidermal water loss, and improve skin’s overall appearance.
Red Gardenia Flower Extract, rich in Ferulic Acid, has skin-soothing and antioxidant properties. Its natural colour is responsible for Liquid Peelfoliant’s pinkish hue.

how to use liquid peelfoliant
Exfoliation is typically carried out after cleansing and before application of serums and moisturisers. Daily exfoliation can be performed either AM or PM to suit your lifestyle.
Massage Liquid Peelfoliant evenly onto dry, cleansed skin. Leave on for 1-3 minutes, then rinse. Begin by using every other day, noting skin’s response, and building up to daily use. You may experience tingling as the product activates. For daytime use, follow with a serum, and moisturiser with SPF. We recommend Smart Response Serum and Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50.
